August 2011 Update
Update from Sharon (SAPHNA)
SAPHNA has key representation within the Department of Health School Nurse Development programme, representing our profession, children and families. The last meeting of the Steering group took place on 29th June with the next due on 9th August, in between a number of the task and finish groups have met and work is moving apace. The T&F groups include; Workforce, Engagement, Service modelling and Commissioning.
The membership of all the groups comprises of key leaders, 'movers' and 'shakers' in the School health world! They represent the views of the wider workforce (YOU!), children, families and key partners.
Thanks to all of you who have responded to requests via our website Have Your Say section; this truly is our opportunity to influence and shape the design of the future School of Nursing.
I would urge you to regularly check this area for up-to-date info and opportunities.
Concerns from yourselves regarding the impact of the Health Visitor implementation plan have been taken seriously and addressed by the CNO in her meetings and communications with SHA lead nurses. If there are continued concerns then please do highlight them to us.

The 4 key deliverables of the SN Development Programme are;

Progress So Far
Below I have provided a brief overview of some of the work thus far;
As a result of the work and commitment from the Chief nursing officers team and the leadership of Wendy Nicholson (DoH SN lead), key links have been made with the HV implementation plan and places have been offered and taken by School Nurses on the Building Community Capacity modules and the Accelerated Learning events.
A Draft model for service delivery has been developed and is currently under consideration by the working groups.
Key levers and cross cutting issues have been identified and are being explored, these include the national Mental health strategy; No health without mental health, the Munro report, Managing medicines in schools, Transition and Integrated family support..............
Consultation events have taken place via the British Youth Council and a national survey has been conducted with children and young people
C4EO are currently calling for and validating examples of good practice which will be held on their website and promoted as exemplars
Wendy Nicholson will be the keynote speaker at our forthcoming conference on September 28th (see website for further details), where she will give a fuller briefing , update and will welcome delegates the chance to air their invaluable views, opinions and innovations.
