Have Your Say! Call for Evidence

We have been asked to provide the Chief nursing officer's team with evidence which supports the claims that monies/resources/university places etc are being diverted from School Nursing to support the implementation of the HV call to action plan.

Chris Beasley (CNO) and the team are concerned that this may be the case and have asked us to provide some evidence so that they may intervene. I have, again, stressed the urgency for an announcement from DoH re the School nurse development programme. Health minister, Anne Milton, was supposed to announce this at the recent RCN congress however, this was superseded by the media interest/pressure re Andrew Lansley failing to address the whole congress...
They are now seeking another opportunity at which to do this.

Please can I ask you to cascade and submit any evidence, concerns, etc relating to the above ASAP to me; anonymised is acceptable, however, where possible if we are able to name then direct action can and be taken

Have Your Say! Examples of Best Practice

Wendy Nicholson, Department of Health nurse advisor for School Nursing is requesting examples of good practice. It is of paramount importance that we take the time and opportunity to respond as this will inform the review of service delivery. A more formal announcement re the School Nursing Review will happen following a ministerial announcement anticipated next week.

SAPHNA are working with Wendy/DoH to represent your views on this and to ensure the best outcome possible for us all in a time of great uncertainty and threat.

I would be obliged if you could either send your responses to me for co-ordination or copy me into your responses.

Please cascade as relevant.

Dear all,

I hope this email finds you all well - apologies for not getting in touch sooner - just to reassure you we are working on the school nurse agenda.

I am collecting examples of good practice and wondered if you have any case studies or details of innovative work that has been undertaken in the following areas:

  • Leadership and professional ambassadors / champions
  • Commissioning school nursing services
  • Impacting on public outcomes
  • Supporting children and young people with, long-term conditions or disabilities including mental health problems in both school and community settings
  • Work with vulnerable groups - included children excluded from school
  • Integrated working with Local authority, acute hospital settings, and children's community nursing service
  • Innovative practice
  • School nurses involvement in community development
  • Young people's (and families) engagement in service development and review processes
  • Workforce development and recruiment
  • Innovative approaches to education and training

Many thanks in anticipation.
Best wishes,
