Aim
To enable participants to improve their understanding and knowledge in working more effectively with children and young people who are at risk of self harmrange of behaviours.
Objectives
By the end of the Training participants will have:
- Gained a better understanding of the triggers and reasons why young people sometimes adopt self-harming behaviours.
- Gained greater knowledge, skills and confidence in identifying risk factors that may make a young person at risk of adopting self-harming behaviours.
- Identified potential alternatives and strategies for reducing risk when working with young people who self-harm.
Outcome
Participants will feel increased confidence in engaging with young people who may self-harm or may be self-harming. Participants will also take with them a developed knowledge and understanding of triggers and types, and safer alternatives to self harming behaviours, which in turn will lead to better understanding and support for young people in adopting less risky coping mechanisms and awareness of their motivations
