Aim

To enable participants to improve their knowledge and understanding of substance misuse regarding illicit drugs and alcohol, in a harm reduction approach to engaging with young people.

Objectives

By the end of the training participants will have:

- An improved understanding of the reasons and motivations as to why young people use and misuse drugs and alcohol.
- Increased knowledge of the categories and classifications of drugs an alcohol, methods of use and the risks associated in a physical, psychological and legal sense.
- Gained knowledge of potential interventions that can be used when engaging with young people regarding drugs and alcohol in 1:1 and group settings.

Outcome

- Participants will feel more confident in engaging with young people where drug and alcohol issues are present, or where there is a substance misuse risk to a young person.
- Participants will be empowered by their developed knowledge of substances & interventions, and therefore will be better equipped to minimise harm and to encourage informed safe decision making for the young people that they work with.
