Special Education Award
Kuenssberg Scholarship
This Scholarship was set up in 1999 in recognition of Dr Ekke Kuenssberg’s contribution to the QNIS as chairman of the Education Committee for 20 years. Dr Kuenssberg was one of the principal contributors to the reconstruction of general medical practise, a GP for 41 years in West Edinburgh and a practitioner who encouraged close collaboration between doctors, nurses, midwives and practice managers. He believed also in the access to education and research and was able to promote this through the QNIS. More information, including application forms, can be found at http://www.qnis.org.uk/FUNDING_kuenssberg.html
Brigid Stewart Scholarship
The Brigid Stewart Scholarship was set up in 2004 in memory of Mrs Brigid Stewart, in recognition of her contribution towards Community Nursing. Mrs Stewart as an experienced manager of health care delivery within community settings also had a passionate belief in the value of nurses in all settings and was totally committed to the development of nursing. The QNIS was looking forward to her input as Nursing Director on behalf of community nursing but sadly her life was tragically cut short by cancer from which she died in April 2003. More information, including application forms, can be found at http://www.qnis.org.uk/FUNDING_brigid.html

Testimonials
In conclusion I feel that I have benefited personally by completing my Portfolio for the FBA as it has given me a sense of personal satisfaction and achievement. As I have worked through the different sections it made me examine my own practice making me aware of my contribution to the practice in terms of leadership and teamwork.
Cheryl Adair. Practice Nurse Bridgeton Health Centre
Since completing the portfolio for Fellowship By Award through the Queen’s Nursing Institute, Scotland, I have gained the confidence to apply for promotion. The act of writing this portfolio has forced me to recognise the areas in which I am practising at a high level. I had previously been unable to identify this, and had regarded it as simply carrying out the work I was employed to do. This modesty had been detrimental to my career as I was unable to inform senior staff of my qualities until I had identified them myself. I feel that I have grown both personally and professionally during this process
Clare Stiles. Clinical Team Leader (North) NHS Shetland
