Community nursing in Scotland faces many challenges; new Government policy, service re-design at all levels, changing expectations of working culture, an ageing workforce, budgetary pressures, a new relationship with local government and shifting the balance of care all impact on the workforce and their workload.

The Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS) Focus Groups carried out in 2007 found that many community nurses feel disengaged from the current change process. It is now the time to take stock and consider how community nurses can influence positive reform.

In November the RCN will be consulting on a ‘way forward’ and we want to give you an opportunity to voice your views on this.

This joint QNIS/RCN event, targeted exclusively at Community Nurses, is being held in addition to seven free consultation events that the RCN are hosting. These externally facilitated and interactive world café events are an opportunity to explore creative and practical ways forward. The results of your work will be presented to the Scottish Government in Spring 2009.
